Last three weeks of July 5-23, 2010 BASIC

The University of Tennessee College of Education in cooperation with the Civil Air Patrol, NASA, and the Tennessee Department of Transportation Office of Aeronautics announces Basic Aerospace Education C & I 595 AE class to be held at UT Knoxville from July 5 to July 23. Three semester hours of graduate credit will be available with all, or part, cost of tuition to be provided by a grant from the Tennessee Department of Transportation Office of Aeronautics and the University of Tennessee College of Education. Enrollment is limited to 25 teachers in the greater Knoxville area for the Basic AE Workshop. The Advanced AE Workshop for 15 teachers that have graduated from the Basic AE Workshop will be held the summer of July 2011.

INSTRUCTION

All instruction will be a balanced combination of classroom lectures and "hands on" laboratory experience under the supervision of instructors who have extensive experience and expertise in their respective aerospace science fields. Field trips are planned, including a three day trip to Kennedy Space Center or Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Alabama. Local flight experience/instruction will be provided by the Civil Air Patrol. Students are required to join the Civil Air Patrol as an Aerospace Education Member AEM Member, $35 membership dues. All students will receive $100.00 stipend for expenses at the end of the workshop.

PARTICIPANTS

Approximately 25 teachers K-12 Basic or 15 or Advanced

Priority will be given to teachers in the greater Knoxville, TN metro area.

Priority will be given to experienced teachers. Advanced class applicants must have completed the Basic Workshop at UT or one of the other Basic AE Workshops from the other three Tennessee Universities.
