  Update Notes:

As of November, 2008

We have received approval from the TN Aeronautics Commission that we have been funded for both the Basic and Advanced AE Classes for July 2009!

-----------------------------------------------

All students should have complete the following actions as soon as notified to begin in the spring of 2009:

1. Be admitted to UT Graduate School

2. Enroll for the course.  The course will be available to enroll in sometime later in the spring. A notice will be put on this website when the course comes up for UT registration.

3. Send your membership as an Aerospace Education Member to Civil Air Patrol.

If you are missing any of the above, see directions below and take steps to complete.

The UT AE BASIC Teacher Workshop course number is:

Aerospace course is TPTE 595, Section 001

The Aerospace Grant will be paying your tuition for your workshop this summer, so this means you will have to go online to confirm your attendance for summer.  First, you will need to get a 4 digit personal security code from the Registrar's Office.  You may call them at 974-2101 OR you can email Peggy Love at plove1@utk.edu and request your personal security code.

After you get your code, you will need to go to http://cpo.utk.edu, enter your social security number, enter your 4 digit personal security code, follow the prompts to confirm your attendance for summer, scroll to bottom of page and press submit button.

It very important that you do this by June 1.  Failure to confirm your attendance by the deadline will result in your schedule being canceled and you being charged a late fee to re-register.  The grant will not cover the expense for late fees or withdrawal fees.

In order to register you for this course, you will need to be admitted or

Re-admitted into the Graduate School.  You can get an application on the UTK website (see address below), fill it out (if you have not already done so) and returned it to the Graduate School as soon as possible because it takes 4-6 weeks to process

To expedite the process, please apply as UNDECLARED major and NON-DEGREE.  If you wish to pursue a degree, the non-degree status can be changed at a later date.  If you have never been admitted to our Graduate School, you will also need to request transcripts from any institutions you have attended to be sent to the Graduate School.  Their address is on the application form.

The UT AE Teacher Workshop course number is:

Basic    TPTE 595, Section 001

The course will be listed 2nd Session of Summer and will be under Dr. Susan Benner's name.

Your contact at the UT Graduate School should be:  tba

The Aerospace Grant will be paying full tuition for the 3 credit hours.

It is very important that you start your paperwork now to apply to the Graduate School at the University of Tennessee if you are not already admitted.

The form is on line at the UTK website:

You will need to join CAP's AEM program as a teacher member.  Application at:

Please complete the CAP AEM application and get it off to the CAP so you will have your membership by our fieldtrip time.   This needs to be done in early June, 2008, so your membership is back by the start of class in July.

Fieldtrip update 11/08:   Military airlift to KSC will be requested but probably will not be available due to world military needs.  If we get airlift our fieldtrip will be to Kennedy Space Center and we will stay at Cocoa Beach.  If no airlift our fieldtrip will be to the Marshall Space Flight Center NASA Complex and the Alabama Space and Rocket Center in Huntsville, Alabama.  We will car pool down to the site and we will work out the details during the first week of our workshop.   We may be offered an orientation flight by the 134th air refueling wing at McGhee Tyson TN Air National Guard aboard a KC135 for a possible refueling mission if we are unable to get airlift to Florida.
